Moringa School opened its campus in Rwanda in October 2018 in partnership with the ICT Chamber and funded by GIZ which led to the launch of the WeCode scholarship program which aims to close the digital gender gap in Rwanda. The program has seen 2 cohorts trained from October 2018 to November 2019 and out of this 76 women graduated with software and soft skills development. These graduates received 6 months job placement support from Moringa School and to date, 48 women have found employment which has seen the WeCode program achieve a 70% job placement rate.

To enable our students to successfully complete the Moringa School program. As the WeCode Student Counselor, you will provide preventive and responsive services to equip the students to deal with any social, emotional, learning, and/or behavioral problems.
Set up a counseling program/structure for WeCode students and assist in solidifying the psycho-social aspects of the WeCode Program.
Vet and ensure that the psycho-social support system designed by the WeCode team is robust enough to support WeCode students through the program and eventually get the students placed in the respective available jobs.
Fit a counseling program/schedule into the WeCode program that works well with the student class schedule.
Provide individual and/or group counseling to students based on the identified concerns and needs.
Consult and collaborate effectively with technical mentors and other educational/community stakeholders regarding students with the identified concerns and needs.
Implement an effective referral and follow-up process.
Accurately and appropriately use the designed assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and/or group counseling services.
Assists technical mentors (teachers) and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.
Work with the various education stakeholders to assist in designing strategies to improve the learning conditions.
Maintain confidential case files/records for all students obtaining counseling.
Liaise, where appropriate and with the student’s consent, with members of staff.
Maintain own professional development and update knowledge and awareness through continuing professional development.
Prepare a monthly report on the use of the service and the types of issues being presented.

You have great interpersonal and emotional skills.
Bachelor degree in Psychology, Sociology, Community Development, or any related field.
MA degree in Counseling preferred.
3+ years of proven full-time working experience with low-income students/ populations within a school setting is a strong component to this role
Ability to respond effectively to the needs (social, emotional, learning and/or behavioral) of low income/ disadvantaged youth and helping them make healthy decisions
Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources
