Before I discovered Moringa School, I felt stuck. I had graduated from the University of Eldoret with a degree in Analytical Chemistry with Computing, holding onto a dream of blending science with tech. But reality hit hard, every job interview reminded me that my credentials were seen as “too chemistry-heavy” and not tech-focused enough. Despite having a strong interest in computer science, I kept facing closed doors.
Then came a breakthrough.
A friend working at Intellect introduced me to Moringa School and the Mastercard Foundation scholarship program, and everything changed. When I learned I had been awarded a 100% scholarship to study Software Development Engineering, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. It wasn’t just a scholarship, it was a second chance. Moringa even provided a laptop, something I couldn’t afford at the time, eliminating the biggest hurdles to starting my tech journey.
The Moringa bootcamp was nothing short of transformational. This wasn’t just about learning how to code but building real-world tech skills and confidence. The hands-on approach, from pair programming to collaborative team projects, equipped me with both the technical expertise and the soft skills needed to thrive in the tech industry. The instructors were seasoned professionals, and the environment fostered growth, resilience, and an unshakable belief in my potential.
With the Mastercard Foundation’s support, I could focus entirely on my education. I didn’t have to worry about how I’d eat, pay bills, or survive. That freedom made all the difference; it allowed me to give my all, and it showed in my progress.
Today, I’m proud to say I work as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at a major international bank in Kenya. It’s a role I couldn’t have even dreamed of before joining Moringa. My career transformation in tech has come full circle: I’ve already referred four aspiring students to Moringa, and one of them is now a Solution Architect at M-Pesa Africa.
What I’ve gained from Moringa School goes beyond a job title or a salary—it’s given me purpose. I’m committed to paying it forward, helping others from underrepresented backgrounds break into tech. I know firsthand how many brilliant minds are overlooked simply because they lack access.
If you’re wondering whether tech training in Kenya is the right path for you, I urge you to take the leap. Moringa School isn’t just a coding BootCamp, it’s a launchpad for untapped potential and one of the most inspiring coding bootcamp success stories out there. Sometimes, the unexpected detours lead us to exactly where we’re meant to be.
